Local Course Rules

GENERAL
  • In stroke play competitions all putts must be holed Rule 3-2.
  • All water hazards are lateral water hazards Rule 26
  • When "Preferred Lies" rule is in effect, the following rule will be observed. Maplewood "Preferred Lies" rule. This is posted by the handicap computer, on #1 Tee, #10 tee, and front counter.
  • The use of distance-measuring devices is permitted (Decision 14-3/0.5)
  • The “naturalized areas” consists of all grass areas that are taller than intended rough cut. The line is defined by the cut of grass. These areas are played as lateral water hazard. Please proceed under Rule 26 – Water Hazard (Including Lateral Water Hazards).
Out of Bounds Holes #1 & #9
#1 Begins with the white stripe located on the curb and runs the entire left side of the hole until the white OB stake is reached. OB is defined by the left edge of the cart path. Rule 27-1.

Stripes on curbs in a straight line define OB behind #1 tee. The stripe on #9 curb starts and defines OB until the OB stake is reached adjacent to #3 green. OB is then defined by the outside edge of the cart path continuing to the bridge and ends at the white painted fence post.
HOLE #2 & #6
If a ball comes to rest within the margin of the lateral water hazard, please proceed under Rule 26. As an additional option, a player may use the ball drop provided.
Split Rail Fence #9
Any ball in play and a player's swing is restricted by the split rail fence, free relief may be taken in the ball drop provided, Appendix 1 A-6.
HOLE #7 & #10
Any ball that comes to rest between the cart path and any fence between the orange poles receives free relief on the right side of the cart path.
Note: OB on both holes is defined by the cyclone fence.
HOLE #10 & #13
If a ball comes to rest within the area defined by the blue stakes, the player, without penalty, may take relief in the drop area provided for the hole being played. Appendix 1 Part A-6.
HOLE #18
The out of bounds on the left side of hole is defined by the ground wire of the fence. The players does not receive free relief from the fence, posts or the concrete bases holding the posts. Decision 24/3.
26-1 Relief for ball in Lateral Water Hazard
It is a question of fact whether a ball that has not been found after having been struck toward a lateral water hazard is in the hazard. In the absence of the knowledge or virtual certainty that a ball struck toward a lateral water hazard, but not found, is in the hazard, the player must proceed under Rule 27-1 (Ball lost or OB).
